Sacred Places
Sanctified places are places in which people gather to declare social changes, witness vows, and create bonds of friendship.
Although Celticism is inspired by particular landscapes, it is not captive to them. Wherever we go, we take our ancestors our spiritual and cultural heritage and us all that has made us who we are. We must always acknowledge and honor the land beneath our feet and those whose bodies have composed it.
Tigh 'n Allius | Sweating House
The sweating house (Tigh 'n allius) is a small construction, usually made of stone. They are made to a length of five to seven feet in length, occasionally larger. Traditionally they were prepared with a turf fire that is kindled inside the house until it is heated like an oven. The fire is then removed and the person or people wrapped in blankets go inside and sit down on the bench. Modern technology has made it possible to construct a more environmentally friendly sweating house that may be powered by electric gas, or hot water heating units. People have also started using steam on occasion, which is similar to the Native American Lakota purification ceremony.
The tigh 'n allius are an ancient house used in ceremony. It has been until recent years as purification for such things as rheumatism. The effects are certainly purifying and provide members a means of meditation, spiritual cleansing, prayer and fellowship; varying in choice of course, among members.
