Hello. I can't speak Gaelic, Brezhoneg... but I'd like to understand that languages. I've been reading the sentences in Irish, Scottish Gaelic... and I feel them near me. I'm from Catalunya and I speak Catalan (my language). I think it's nice to find a group like this.

You speak Brezhoneg, Sergi? (Breton)

If so, you are welcome to share what you know here! I know little about Breton, and it would be nice to learn.

No, but I've been in Breizh and I'm interested in it. I'd like to know more about this language.

Cenedl heb iaith, cenedl heb galon - A nation without a language is a nation without a heart. I love this saying, and its so very true, I think Cymru and Eire are the only 2 Celtic countries with a Celtic language as an official language :(

Our friends in Breizh, and Yr Alban should also have their languages officially recognised as well!

In order to immerse myself fully in my celtic heritage, I've been attempting to learn Scot's Gaidhlig. It's so hard because there's no one to converse with. I learned a few sentences and some structure, but I haven't studied inabout a year now and the flow has become a little shadowy for me. Will attempt to revive myself and post here as time allows.

I look forward to your posts!

Maybe if you start up again, you could post what you are learning so others could follow along. I would be happy to do so, I am learning Irish, but I have planned to learn Gaidhlig, as well as Manx. My goal is to learn all of the Gaelic languages.

Slan leat!

Breandan- that's really quite a goal- I wish you all the luck in the world. I found that learning the inflections and aspirations for speaking Gaidhlig to be quite challenging. Makes it more than just memorizing. I have a couple of software programs - Languages of the World, and Teach Yourself Gaelic that without which I would have no hope of learning the language at all. They are quite good at teaching the correct enunciation and aspirations for the words. I'll dig em out and load em up again and get back into it. Actually, it sounds like a darn fine idea!

Yeah, I am using a book and CD's from Teach Yourself Irish. It helps a lot, that and I am watching TG4 on a regular basis, haha, it helps me get use to hearing it and I build vocabulary.

Best of luck to you, as well!

I have Rosetta Stone Irish but I am going at it slow and I don't have anyone to practice with.
I have a CD for Scottish Gaelic but I found it to be very hard--not Rosetta Stone another program.

Interestingly enough- I have found myself drawn more to the ancient Cymri or brythonic language of wales- welsh I suppose was one of the first celtic dialects spoken in the british isles- barring the Picts or Cruithni language which is documented as being quite different from any form of Gaelic. The Picts did communicate with the Irish and the Welsh people, but, the Romans couldn't understand them without an interpreter.
I guess I'd better stick with Gaidhlig for now- maybe Welsh will be next for me.
