Profile Information

About Me:
I grew up loving books and history and all things Irish.

I believe I was destined to be interested in history. One of my distant ancestors, Thomas Aubert, reportedly sailed up the St. Lawrence River to discover Canada some 26 years before Jacques Cartier’s 1534 voyage. Another relative was a 17th Century “King’s Girl,” one of a group of young unmarried girls sent to New France as brides for the settlers there.

My passion for reading made me long to write books like the ones I enjoyed, and I tried creating sequels to my favorite Nancy Drew mysteries. Later, fancying myself a female version of Andrew Lloyd Weber, I drafted a musical set in Paris in WWII.

A former journalist and lifelong Celtophile, I enjoyed a previous career as a reporter/editor for a small chain of community newspapers before returning to my first love, romantic fiction. My stories usually include an Irish setting, hero or heroine, and sometimes all three. My first novel, In Sunshine or in Shadow, is set in post-Famine Ireland.
Hobbies/Interests:
Ireland, anything Irish, travel - especially to Ireland, reading, writing, Irish history, Irish mythology, Irish music, Broadway shows, collecting music boxes
My Profession:
Author

Need A Little Inspiration?

Ever have one of those days when the Muse just isn't cooperating? When you wonder if you shouldn't just give up on that dream? That's when I dust off some of my favorite quotes for a little inspiration.

Coming Home, A Sequel to In Sunshine or in Shadow, To Be Published

It's official! Coming Home, a sequel to my first novel, In Sunshine or in Shadow, will be published by Highland Press!

I don't have a release date yet, but I will say that the story revolves around Ashleen O'Brien, daughter of a village girl and step-daughter of an Irish landlord, and her stormy, passionate romance with Cavan Callaghan, hero of the Irish Brigade.

Can these two very different people find love? And more importantly, can their love survive the ghosts of a past that… Continue

A Myth Busted

I was so excited about my recent vacation. Three weeks in England, Wales and Ireland. It was a trip I'd dreamed about ever since I was in my teens, and I wanted to do as much - and see as much - as I could.

I knew I couldn't possibly see everything I wanted to in so short a time. But I was bound and determined to try.

Our first stop was London. One of the great cities of Europe. We spent two nights in London, and I studied the guidebooks while on the plane. Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Tham… Continue

In Sunshine or in Shadow Now in Kindle

My Irish-set historical romance novel, In Sunshine or in Shadow, is now available in Kindle.

A Valiant Survivor of Famine and Tyranny

Siobhan Desmond will do anything to keep the tattered remnants of her family together, even if it means working for the new landlord -- a darkly handsome stranger with secrets in his eyes and pain in his smile. As she watches her village return to life and begin to thrive under Rory's care, she comes to understand his true nature and soo

I know what you mean about wishing you had written family memories down. My great-grandmother passed away in 2000... she was a flapper and my great-grandfather was in the Black Watch. I had one chance to talk to her about the women's liberation movement when I was in the 8th grade, and would have like to ask her sooo much more about her life that spanned 100 years.

The moral of the story is to record history as it happens; just because it's new or modern doesn't mean it's not important. Have you ever considered writing an autobiography?
