Katy Perry learned about Russell Brand's surprise proposal on Google

Katy Perry had a feeling fiance Russell Brand was going to pop the question ... because she Googled it!

"Unfortunately, I still Google myself sometimes. I saw it on Google alerts. I'm going to be honest," Perry said during E! Entertainment's coverage of the Grammy Awards red carpet.

But how did the rest of the world know that the 34-year-old Brand was going to propose?

"I was buying rings," he told E! host Ryan Seacrest.

The couple, who hugged and held hands during the interview, revealed details about the Dec. 31 proposal.

"There was an elephant involved," Brand said. "We were on an elephant just before it. We were in India. It was at midnight, and it is not a good idea to be on the back of an elephant during a fireworks display."

Perry, 25, then chirped, "They can't tell the difference between an apocalypse and New Year's Eve."

The joking duo then moved down the red carpet to talk to People.com, where Brand revealed the dress code for their upcoming wedding.
